The African American Advisory Committee Seeking Members

IThe State Board of Education (SBE) is looking for teachers, administrators, parents, and education and business stakeholders to serve on the African American Advisory Committee (AAAC).  The Committee is charged with providing the SBE ongoing advice on variety of issues related to the education of African American students.  The AAAC was created to ensure that African American students have access to the same high quality core curriculum, is tested to determine their academic progress and the progress of their school, and passes the same high-level exit examination to receive a high school diploma.  There are approximately 500,000 African American students, nearly 8 percent of total enrollment, in California’s K-12 schools.  A large percentage of these students are not meeting California’s standards of achievement.  Applications are due Tuesday, February 17, 2009.  Interested individuals can click here for more information and details.
